Road to Africa

Road to Africa

Road to Africa is a pan-African storytelling and exploration initiative that showcases how clean transport and renewable energy are redefining movement across the continent. Through electric expeditions linking major African cities, it captures the people, places, and progress shaping Africa’s journey toward a connected, sustainable future.

Road to Nairobi 1600km road trip from Nairobi to Addis Ababa
(October 2025)

The Road to Addis marked the first long-distance electric mobility expedition between Nairobi and Addis Ababa, a 1,600-kilometer journey (one-way) through some of East Africa’s most breathtaking terrains. The goal was simple: to test, document, and understand what it takes to travel across borders powered only by electricity.

Conceived as a live experiment, the Road to Addis set out through the most inhabited stretches of northern Kenya and southern Ethiopia. As one of the technical leads put it, getting a full convoy together for such a route was an ambitious plan.

Road to Lusaka 2440km road trip from Lobito to Lusaka
(April 2026)

The Lobito–Lusaka Expedition (approximately 2,440 km) is emerging as one of Africa’s most strategic east–west transport arteries. Stretching from the Port of Lobito on Angola’s Atlantic coast to Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, the route cuts across key economic zones and mineral-rich regions, linking the interior to global trade routes through the Atlantic Ocean.

Road to Nairobi 1600km road trip from Addis Ababa to Nairobi
(September 2026)

The Road to Nairobi follow up expedition on the Addis Ababa–Nairobi corridor, to be launched immediately after the Nordic Africa EV Summit in Addis Ababa. This same route made history in October 2025 with the successful completion of the Road to Addis, the first fully electric cross-border convoy between Nairobi and Addis Ababa. That journey proved that long-distance electric travel across East Africa is possible, even in the absence of mature charging networks. Road to Nairobi builds directly on that achievement. As a continuation, to test infrastructure after one year, moving from proof of concept toward realisation, refinement, and scale.

A continent on the move and ready to move electric.

Road to Africa is a multi-year initiative that tests, documents, and accelerates the transition toward electric trade corridors, aligning with AfCFTA’s vision for integrated, low-carbon transport. We bring the entire EV ecosystem together to drive the change.
