Celebrating 65 Years of Tunisian–Norwegian Friendship

In a world where diplomacy often makes headlines for the wrong reasons, it is a rare and welcome moment to gather in celebration of friendship. That is exactly what happened this April, as the Embassy of Tunisia in Oslo, in collaboration with the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted an evening of culture, connection, and cooperation to honor 65 years of diplomatic relations between Tunisia and Norway.

Held under the evocative theme From Fjords to the Medina, the event was more than a celebration of history and friendship. Through a dynamic program that brought together policymakers, business leaders, artists, and tourism experts, the evening underscored a mutual desire to deepen the ties between the two countries across diplomacy, trade, and tourism.

A Conversation Rooted in Partnership

The highlight of the evening was a panel discussion reflecting on more than six decades of collaboration between Tunisia and Norway. Former ambassadors, Norwegian travel professionals, and leaders from trade and renewable energy sectors explored the successes of the past and the opportunities of the future, including Tunisia’s emergence as a hub for green energy and sustainable tourism.

With the growing potential of Tunisia’s renewable energy sector, including solar and wind energy, and the strategic El-Med project linking Africa and Europe, participants discussed how Norwegian companies can and should play a role in shaping Tunisia’s clean energy future.

It was made clear: this is no longer a question of if investors should look to Tunisia, but how they can enter and thrive in a market brimming with potential.

Culture as a Bridge

The event was also a sensorial journey into Tunisia’s vibrant culture. Guests were treated to an authentic Tunisian buffet, a spread of spices, textures, and stories featuring signature dishes and ingredients that offered a taste of Tunisia’s culinary soul.

The cultural centerpiece of the evening was a mesmerizing performance by Norwegian-Tunisian dancer Mina Ali. Blending traditional Tunisian movements with broader Oriental dance styles, her performance was a moving embodiment of dual heritage and the powerful ties between the two nations.

Looking Back, Moving Forward

An exhibition of historical photographs, official documents, and rare artworks illustrated the depth of this diplomatic relationship, from the visits of heads of state to longstanding trade agreements that have shaped bilateral cooperation.

The evening was a nostalgic look at the past and a reminder of what remains possible when nations choose connection over distance.

Tunisia and Norway: Shared Values, Shared Future

Whether through joint ventures in the renewable energy space, the revival of tourism exchanges, or continued cultural dialogue, Tunisia and Norway stand at a promising juncture. As the world seeks stable, purpose-driven partnerships, the Tunisian-Norwegian relationship is proving to be resilient and forward-looking.

This event served as an invitation to build, to partner, and to dream together for the decades ahead.
