From the Maasai Mara to the High Arctic, two destinations miles apart but connected through a shared vision and common goal of creating a sustainable future through conservation.
From where it all started at a small rustic camp on the banks of the Talek River, bordering Maasai Mara National Reserve, journey through time and space to the “Trappers Hotel” made from drift wood/ timber from Siberia, located in Longyearbyen, the High Arctic/ Archipelago of Spitsbergen. Today, Basecamp Explorer operates five different safari camps in the Mara region and five uniquely designed small lodges in the Arctic.
Maasai Mara
The Maasai Mara Serengeti ecosystem is one of the oldest, most complex natural environments on Earth and home to an incredible diversity of plants and animals not found anywhere else on the planet. The local Maasai people, through their culture and their traditions have coexisted harmoniously side by side, with the wildlife for hundreds of years.
You can follow the Basecamp Circuit through five unique safari camps, where at every destination you live and sleep comfortably, directly in nature, welcomed and hosted by locals – the true specialists. From the simplicity of Dorobo and Wilderness via Basecamp’s Masai Mara to the exquisite views from Eagle View and luxurious Leopard Hill, together they form a unique and rare experience.
Naboisho Conservancy
A walking safari through Naboisho Conservancy with Basecamp’s trusted Maasai guides, gets you close to the highest density of iconic wild animals in the world. This cradle of mankind holds around 40% of what’s left of the larger mammals on this planet but it is under threat from climate change.
Your visit contributes
Preserving it is vital for our global climate balance. Basecamp Maasai Mara and Spitsbergen share a common goal of creating a sustainable future through conservation. It requires a ‘coming together’ and joining forces with local communities to create sustainable business models that preserve these precious natural habitats. As you walk through the vast savannah of wildlife that is Maasai Mara National Reserve, know that your visit contributes to the conservation of this priceless wild kingdom for future generations to enjoy, and helps to preserve a way of life for the Maasai. Every visit contributes to a sustainable future through conservation.
